LORDE'S MAC COLLECTION

Everybody's favourite teenage chanteuse has released a collaboration with MAC embodying her signature purple lip.

Our very own Amber D (Senior Artist for MAC) has been pivotal in developing Lorde's distinctive makeup style both in New Zealand and on her international tours. An awesome example of how a great makeup artist works with a client's personality to develop their own unique look that becomes synonymous with their name.

A massive high-five to Amber!

Look out for this collection in MAC stores in 5th June 2014

CANDY YUM-YUM RETURNS TO MAC

CULT FAVOURITE RETURNS AS PERMANENT ADDITION

Exciting news for lovers of lipstick. Sell-out success Limited Edition Lipstick Candy Yum-Yum is returning to MAC Stores as a permanent addition according to Blogger-in-the-know British Beauty Blogger.

This opaque matte candy pink delight should be available online in the US within the next 24 hours and hits the rest of the world in Feb... (we think). Some seriously genius reporting from me there! Check in with your local MAC store for some cold hard facts.

I managed to snap up one before it sold out when it first released and have regretted not stockpiling. In fact it's been quite a while since I've seen such a great response to a Limited Edition item from the MAC range and know this decision won't be regretted by the powers that be - nice one!

BEHIND THE SCENES WITH MAC AT HOLLY FULTON

I love watching behind the scenes videos just as much as I love rummaging through other people's kits (am I a make-up Womble?). Here MAC Senior Artist Cher Webb shares the look Andrew Gallimore designed for Holly Fulton - natural looking freckles and a neon, two-toned lip. YUMMY!

Video courtesy of MAC Cosmetics

Base:

  • Select Cover Up lightly blended over hydrated skin to create an even, flat, “mannequin” look to skin.

  • Strut Eyebrow Pencil used to stipple freckles across the nose and cheeks, varying in size and density, and then patted over with a fingertip to create a “realness” to skin.

  • Pro Blot Powder Loose swept through the t-zone to polish and set.

Brows:

  • Brows are combed and groomed

Lips:

  • Embrace Me Lip Pencil (available s/s 2013) used to define the bow of lip and contour a more rounded shape, while avoiding the centre of the lower lip.

  • Pro Fuchsia and White Lipmix- mixed to create a neon pink and applied through the outer corners of the lip.

  • Pro Orange Lipmix applied though the middle of the lip towards the lower lip edge, finger width in size, in a rounded heart shape.

  • 217 Blending Brush used to softly blur the two hues of fuchsia and orange together to finish.

BINKY FELSTEAD - TOPMAN GENERATION MAGAZINE

Thought I would share with you a couple of shots from a  shoot I did a while back with Made In Chelsea's Binky Felstead

"Taking our lead from the 70s sexploitation films of Russ Meyer, such as Faster Pussycat Kill, Kill and Supervixens, we headed down to London's infamous Shadow Lounge in Brewer Street – one of the capital's oldest pole dancing clubs – where she and her gang of vixens tease and bully an innocent country boy, and make him into a man." - Topman Generation

To achieve that vampy vixen look I layered two pairs of MAC Lashes Number 48 and added a thick liquid liner to the eyelid. On the bottom waterline I added a Fascinating Kohl Pencil and set with an off-white matte eyeshadow to create a rounded eye shape.
Binky has lovely skin so I buffed on MAC Face & Body Foundation then added Moisturecover Concealer where needed.
Lips were kept neutral and lightly glossy by adding Creamsheen Glass in Fashion Whim.
I kept the makeup similar for the models sans the vampy lashes. After all there can only be one SUPER VIXEN!!

VIRGIN MUSIC FESTIVAL MAKEUP

My Favorite Long-Lasting Products from MAC to keep you looking amazing

As summer draws to a close, (actually, did it ever 'open'? - I say no) the last of the big festivals draw near. Alternating its locations between Hylands Park and Weston Park this weekend V Festival is set to be a whole bunch of fun.

As usual MAC Cosmetics will be behind the scenes keeping performers, guests and celebrities looking 'Rock & Roll Ready'.

Every year I attend a bunch of festivals and unfortunately this year due to work I haven't attended nearly as many as I would like. I have, however,  been inspired to share some of my favourite MAC products for festival going.. trust me on this one!

Click on the name of each product to link to the MAC Website.

Moisturecover concealer

Just dab on where needed for fresh, dewy coverage. Great for touch ups. I use this as a foundation on occasions when I don't want to be lugging a big bottle of liquid around with me.

Studio Fix Powder
A matte foundation in powder form. Apply with a brush for a lighter coverage or with a sponge for heavier coverage. The compact has a mirror so again, perfect for touch ups on the move at festivals.

Liquidlast Liner

Will not budge until you use an oil-based eye makeup remover. I have been in the ocean with this little gem and still emerged perfectly lined. Rain or shine this is the perfect festival buddy - just apply prior to having a few drinks, it needs a steady hand.

Ruby Woo Lipstick

The last of MACs 'Retro Matte' Range. This is the ultimate red, super-duper matte, (make sure your lips are well primed) doesn't run, feather or bleed. I can knock back the pints, smoke as many cigarettes as I want and it's still there. Whoop!

Fix+ (Demi)

Cult product Fix+ in a baby container. Great for cooling down during a hot day and fantastic to spray over the top of the Studio Fix Powder if it's looking a bit too heavy. Spray on the back of the neck for a really cooling effect.

Wipes (Demi)

If you need a quick refresh of your makeup then this will take it all off with a swipe. I often take off my lipstick with the wipes then reapply (you'd be surprised how much better you can feel after doing this). I hate to tell you but I've also used wipes to deodorise when I've been dancing just a bit too hard.

Take some inspiration from looks MAC Senior Artist Dean Rudd has created to inspire guests at V.

GET THE LOOK - NEON MATTE LINER

Let your peepers glow Neon with a little help from MAC Cosmetics

I love a bit of coloured liner, it’s a simple and effective way of achieving a strong look when pressed for time. Over the years I have tried and tested many techniques to achive this intensity of colour  in a matte formula with varying levels of success.
I have tried all sorts of pigments and mixing mediums to achieve this effect (here’s just one of many) using products from MAC Cosmetics

Liner

  1. Apply Fascinating (white) Kohl Pencil as liner.
  2. Using an Angled Liner Brush 266, gently pat Magenta Madness Pigment on top of the white liner.

Lashes

  1. Apply Prep+Prime Lash to your top lashes
  2. Mix Magenta Madness Pigment with a tiny amount of Lash Mixing Medium (or just apply dry over the wet primer) apply with a angled liner brush or a mascara wand.
Extra Tips
  1. Experiment with colour and layering - you can achieve some amazing results.
  2. Dont be afraid to add colour over black liner - it will often boost the colour.

BEHIND THE SCENES - THE CREATION OF THE BETH DITTO VISUAL FOR MAC

If you're anything like me then you'll love a Behind the Scenes photoshoot or video. It gives you a sneaky peak into the lives of other professionals and the kind of effort that goes in to a big-scale production. Thanks to MAC Cosmetics we now have a behind the scenes taster of what went in to the collaboration between them and songstress Beth Ditto. So join the team behind the scenes with plenty of wigs, make up and the occasional potato?!?!
